Welcome to Jennie G Artistry and thank you so much for stopping by to get to know me. Jennie Gethke. The face and creator behind Jennie G Artistry!
I have always been an art kid. I remember as a child I LOVED my colouring books. I painted and drew all of the things. I remember one of my favourite colouring/puzzle books had the “Draw the Other Half” and I must say, child Jennie was amazing at those. And that’s when I really fell in love with art. I worked on those other half drawings until my side looked identical to the printed side.
As much as I loved art and being creative, I never actually dipped my toes into make up until university. During high school, I would just wear the bare minimum make up…which was really only mascara for me. In University, I did a bit more exploring and realized that doing your makeup isn’t just about trying to look pretty, or enhancing your natural features, or hiding insecurities; it’s also a huge creative outlet. Me, being that art kid, came to see makeup as an art form; not just something that was created to make people look “better”. And that’s the attitude that I bring into each and every makeup application that I do.
I remember when I was 12 years old watching CSI: Miami and decided – Hey, I want to work as a Forensic Scientist. I never swayed from this chosen career path and in high school I realized that I really did LOVE Science…specifically Chemistry. I thought having a Bachelor of Science, with a Major in Chemistry, would be the best for my chosen field. I went to Western University and actually ended up graduating with a Bachelor of Science with a Double Major in Chemistry and Criminology. During my time at Western was when I really started to play with makeup more.
Once I really started to get into makeup, I LEAPED at any chance I had to do my sister's makeup (even though, sometimes it was a bit forced), but she loved it either way! I started out by doing her makeup and then her friends wanted me to do their makeup for school dances, semi-formal, etc. Eventually, I became their go-to makeup artist for all of their events! Once I had the experience, knowledge, and confidence, I started to book weddings. And that’s when I realized I really REALLY love to do this. To me, having someone trust you enough to do their makeup and even just having you a part of their wedding day, is huge to me. I truly feel honoured by every bride who wants to book me as their make up artist. Not only brides, but I carry this outlook through to all of my makeup applications, as well as lessons that I offer.
When I’m not busy glamming up clients, I’m home with the love of my life and my little fur baby. I enjoy quiet nights at home with my little family, but also love hanging out with friends around a kitchen island, or vegging out on the couch watching Real Housewives, or Below Deck, anything Bravo really … But also, Criminal Minds, Law & Order, all sorts of horror/thriller/crime/true crime. My husband and I LOVE watching horror movies and true crime documentaries…We now struggle to find horror movies we haven’t seen haha.
This year, I turn 30, which is a huge birthday and I’m so excited to celebrate that! But, the other milestone that makes this year even better is that my husband and I will be together for 15 YEARS! That’ll officially be half of my lifetime! I honestly couldn’t imagine my life without him. We have built an amazing life together and have the most adorable puppy in the world. I am completely, utterly obsessed with them. Whenever you have a makeup application/lesson/etc. with me, just know that I will absolutely talk your ear off about both of them!
Don’t forget to go check out my social media pages! I post more on my social media about myself, my recent looks, my favourite/new products, and there you’ll see the most recent photos of my gorgeous clients! And maybe some really cute photos of my pupper, and our little family <3
Looking forward to meeting you and glamming you all up!
